One of the best-known streaming bundles is the Disney+ bundle. With that you get Disney+, Hulu, and ESPN+. More recently, Disney launched a new bundle that offered Disney+, Hulu, and Max for just $16.99 a month.
According to a report from Bloomberg, that bundle is working so well Disney is looking for other partners willing to bundle with it.
Why are bundles like this so popular with streaming services? First, it helps keep people locked in. Even if you are not watching something on ESPN+ at the time, for example, you may be watching something on Disney+ helping keep you locked into the bundle to pay for both services.
It also helps bring in new subscribers. Customers of Disney+ may see an inexpensive Max add-on and decide to give it a try and become hooked to its content.
Recently Warner Bros. Discovery’s CEO David Zaslav said that Max will be adding more than six million subscribers in the third quarter of 2024. That is a huge jump from the just over three million added in the second quarter of 2024. A large part of this growth is thanks to the success of the bundle with Disney+.
Now the question becomes who is Disney (and other streaming services) going to work with next to offer bundles of their services. Already there are talks of possible bundle deals in the works to help it expand its reach to new customers.
