Bally Sports is trying hard to get out of bankruptcy, so it doesn’t need to shut down. Now reports have come in saying five NBA teams and two MLB teams may need new TV partners as it tries to cut costs by dropping low-profit networks.
According to a report from Sports Business Journal, the five NBA teams that could need to find a new TV partner before the start of the 2024–2025 season are the Dallas Mavericks, Detroit Pistons, Memphis Grizzlies, New Orleans Pelicans, and Oklahoma City Thunder.
It is expected that many of these teams will move to over-the-air TV and streaming for now. Exact details are unknown, but multiple teams already have deals with over-the-air TV stations to air some of their games.
Comcast has recently reached a deal with Bally Sports to return the network but to its most expensive TV package. Diamond Sports Group, the parent company of Bally Sports, will still need to cut costs by dropping some less profitable teams to become profitable and exit bankruptcy.
No new court date has been set, but Bally Sports must show the judge a plan to exit bankruptcy or it could be forced to shut down and sell off everything to pay its debts.
