With Valentine’s Day here, you may be in the mood to watch a classic romantic movie. You know the ones, where boy meets girl, they run into some obstacles along the way but eventually make it out on the other end to live happily ever after.
If you’re in the mood to get all up in your feelings this month, you may be interested to know what other people in your state are watching as well. Zippia.com compiled information based on films’ domestic box office revenue and notoriety to come up with a top ten list, and then used Google Trends to determine which states had been searching for a particular sappy romance movie the most in 2022. The states with the most search interest in a specific movie were listed as the biggest fans of the film.
As it turns out, Titanic is pretty darn popular, and rightly so. Who doesn’t love a good period drama that (spoiler alert) ends in romantic tragedy? States like Alaska, Michigan, and more love to rewatch young Jack and Rose fall in love.
Another classic, The Notebook made several appearances on the list with North Carolina (where the film is set), Mississippi, and West Virginia searching for 2004 the movie at higher rates than any other states.
Meanwhile, Southern states dipped into the Southern charm of Gone With the Wind, while more modern films, like Call Me By Your Name and The Shape Of Water, tend to be more popular in the northeast and northwest corners of the country.
Here’s a list of the most popular romantic movies in no particular order:
