Digitaltrends recently released a story of 7 reasons you should consider cable TV instead of streaming. After reading that story, we thought it would be good to give a different point of view: 7 reasons you should never go back to cable TV.
#1 Hidden Fees
Unlike cable TV that is full of fees, most streaming services have no hidden fees. The price you see advertised is the price you pay plus taxes. No regional broadcast TV fee, etc. This will clarify what you are paying for.
#2 Cable TV Won’t Lock Your Price
One of the recent trends in cable TV advertising is pushing the price lock. That may be true on the package price, but all the fees are still subject to price hikes. As Bill Shark points out, these price hikes can add up to a lot especially when you are not expecting them.
#3 Many of the Biggest Shows of the Past 10 Years Are Not on Cable TV
If you think cable TV can give you everything you want, sadly that is just no longer the case. Many of the most popular cable TV shows are not on cable TV. For example, the new Star Wars and Star Trek TV shows are only available via streaming through Disney+ and Paramount+.
Switching to cable TV won’t give you all the content like it once did.
#4 Sports Are No Longer on Cable TV
Many of the most popular sports like NFL football are moving to streaming. Dumping streaming will mean no Thursday Night NFL Football, for example. And, Netflix just reached a deal with the NFL to air two NFL games on Christmas day.
Increasingly, you need a streaming service to watch your favorite sports even with a cable TV subscription.
#5 You Will Still Pay for Streaming
As we just covered in the last few points to get many of your favorite programs you will still need a streaming subscription. This means you will likely also be paying for streaming even with cable TV.
#6 You Can Get a Cable TV-Like Experience
Want TNT, ESPN, etc.? You can get that through a long list of services like YouTube TV. They will give you all the same benefits of cable TV but without the headache that comes with cable TV.
#7 Streamers Are Happier Than Cable TV Customers
Think you will be happier with cable TV? According to an American Customer Satisfaction Index Telecommunications Study 2024, America’s satisfaction with streaming video jumped 3% to an all-time high ACSI score of 79. That is 9 points higher than America’s satisfaction with cable TV services that averaged an ACSI score of 70.
