#1, How to Reduce Broadcast Delay on YouTube TV & See Your Sports As Close to Live as Possible
YouTube TV users looking to minimize the delay between live events and their screen can tweak a simple setting to reduce broadcast latency, perfect for keeping up with sports or avoiding spoilers.
Here’s how to do it: Open the YouTube TV app on your smart TV or streaming device (like Roku or Apple TV), start any live channel, and locate the three-dot menu under the playback timeline. Click it, select “Broadcast Delay,” and choose “Decrease” instead of the default setting. This shrinks the buffer, cutting the typical 20-30 second delay to as little as 8-12 seconds, though it may increase the risk of buffering if your internet isn’t rock-solid (Google recommends at least 3 Mbps, but 25 Mbps is ideal for stability). The option, rolled out in late 2023 and now made permanent isn’t available on mobile apps yet. For the closest-to-live experience, pair this with a fast connection less buffer means a trade-off in smoothness, so adjust back to “Default” if interruptions pop up.
