When we talk with cord cutters about why they cut the cord, one of the main reasons is to help with their bills. In 2017, the average American household had over $130,000 in debt. Cord cutting can be a great way to chip away at that debt, but it’s only one way.
While cord cutting can help there are other great ways to get your bills under control to assist in paying off your debt. Today I want to share with you 5 tips I used to get my bills under control.
If you only do one thing on this list make it a budget, especially if you are married. Money is one of the main reasons people get divorced and it often comes down to not having a clear plan on how to manage spending.
With a budget you can take a hard look at how you are spending your money and help you get out of debt. It costs nothing except some time, and it can help you save money.
I personally recommend the Financial Peace Planner. This simple planner can help you quickly get a real budget for your family.
Again if you do just one thing, create a budget.
#2 Bulk Buying
Bulk buying can take a bit of planning but can save a ton of money. (It also helps you avoid running out of your favorite items.)
Costco and Sam’s club are often peoples’ go to bulk buying locations, but I highly recommend checking out Amazon’s Subscribe and Save program. Not only can you save money (I find it’s often cheaper than Walmart) but you also get the items delivered to your door from once a month to once a year.
Bulk buying takes some planning and price comparison but it can help you save a ton of money without putting a ton down upfront. You can learn more about how my family saves $600 a year with Amazon’s Subscribe and Save HERE.
In 2018, we all want and need internet. The good news is you can save money on internet.
The two main ways I recommend saving money is shopping around and cutting back on your internet speed. Even if you don’t plan on switching internet providers knowing what options you have allows you to be prepared when you ask for a better deal from your current ISP.
Also, there is no need for the fastest internet speed. Often internet providers try to sell you the fastest speed possible; however, 20 to 25 Mbps for many cord cutters is all you need.

If you buy online and you want to save money you really should check out Honey. This Chrome add-on helps you find coupons and more. Honey has helped my family save hundreds of dollars every year from ordering pizza to shopping on Amazon. I highly recommend Honey.

We can all admit it: We love our cellphones. Our phones give us access to everything we can think of right from our hands. The tough part is the phone bill.
