Like peanut butter and jelly, cookies and milk, and salt and pepper, Deadpool and Wolverine are a combination that has stood the test of time. Two of Canada’s most notable superheroes in the Marvel Universe will finally team up with the long-awaited Deadpool & Wolverine, the 34th entry in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU).

Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman will reprise their roles as Deadpool/Wade Wilson and Wolverine/James “Logan” Howlett, respectively. This will be the second time that both actors will portray the roles in the same feature film, but the first time would be best forgotten to some. in the Shawn Levy-directed film. Shot on a $200 million budget, the superhero film is a direct sequel to 2016’s Deadpool and 2018’s Deadpool 2.

X-Men Origins: Wolverine (2009)

Hugh Jackman and Ryan Reynolds were paired together as their iconic comic book characters for the first time over a decade and a half ago. X-Men Origins: Wolverine gave fans the backstory of Wolverines and served as a prequel film to the first three X-Men live-action films. The film is notable for removing the most notable trait of the “Merc with a Mouth” by sewing Reynold’s Deadpool’s mouth close. The film was supposed to launch multiple origin films, and though it made over $370 million at the box office on a $150 million budget, Origins was panned by many critics. Notably, a DVD-like unfinished version of Origins was leaked on the web and was downloaded by millions.

Deadpool (2016)

Unlike Origins, when test footage of Reynolds as Deadpool leaked on the internet, fans across the world started buzzing about the fourth-wall-breaking hero getting his own film. There had been talks of Reynolds starring as the character back in 2004 and by 2016, Deadpool broke ground as the highest-grossing R-rated film at the time. Directed by Tim Miller and shot on a $58 million budget, Deadpool had a box office return of $782.8 million becoming the highest-grossing film in the X-Men franchise.

The 11th film in the X-Men film series outgrossed the first film and went on to become the highest-grossing R-rated film at the time. The budget increased to $110 million but the box office only saw a slight gain at $758.8 million. Fans have been waiting for Deadpool 3 and after Marvel Entertainment acquired the X-Men characters with the Fox sale to Walt Disney, Deadpool & Wolverine is expected to be a fun reunion.
