A group of Nashville television stations are among the latest to join the ATSC 3.0 club. The new broadcasting standard, aka NextGen TV, is gradually being deployed across a number of major markets around the country.

In Nashville, WTVF (CBS), WKRN (ABC), WZTV (Fox), WUXP (MNT), and WNAB (CW) are all broadcasting via ATSC 3.0, though they’ll continue to offer ATSC 1.0 content for five years per the FCC’s guidelines.

“The rollout of NextGen TV in Nashville represents another strong step forward in bringing a new and modern broadcasting experience to audiences across the country,” Scripps Local Media President Brian Lawlor said in a press release.

The launch follows recent ATSC 3.0 deployments in areas like Las Vegas, where Sinclair Broadcast Group, Nexstar Media Group, and The E.W. Scripps Company announced a joint effort to get their stations up and running with the new standard.

ATSC 3.0 offers some intriguing possibilities for the future of over-the-air broadcasting, including support for up to 4K video, HDR content, and potential new internet-based applications.

With the Nashville launch, antenna users may need to rescan their TV sets to continue receiving broadcasts and you can find instructions on how to do that on the FCC’s site.
