Cord cutting is meant to save you money, and there are several common mistakes cord cutters make that cost them money.
Today we are going to look at five common mistakes that cord cutters make that cost them money.
#1 Overpaying for Internet
The number one mistake most cord cutters make is overpaying for internet. Everyone thinks they need a Gig of internet, but the truth is if all you are doing is streaming Netflix, checking Facebook, and paying bills you can get away with a lot less internet.
The good news is if you ever decide you want more speed for your internet it is a lot easier to upgrade than it is to downgrade.
We highly recommend you start with a smaller, slower internet speed to save money and upgrade if you need more speed.
#2 Oversubscribing
It is easy to subscribe to everything, but do you really have time to watch it all at once? Consider rotating streaming services to avoid paying for services you hardly use. If there is only one show you want to watch, consider paying for just a month at a time to binge watch it when it comes out.
#3 Not Knowing What You Are Paying For
It is likely you may be paying for a subscription you didn’t even know about. The good news is you can easily find all your subscriptions and cancel the ones you don’t want.
Rocket Money will scan your bank accounts and look for subscription services you are paying for. It will list every subscription you are paying for in one spot, helping you find subscriptions you don’t want.
#4 Paying for a Service for One TV Show
Do you want to watch just one TV show, but you are paying for a streaming service for it? Consider buying the show from Apple or Amazon. For example, if you want Season 7 of Rick and Morty you could pay for 3 months of YouTube TV or Max, or you could just buy it for $24.99 in HD and rewatch it when you want.
#5 Not Shopping Around
We often get used to what we have, and internet is a perfect example of this. One of the biggest mistakes Americans make is to not shop around for new phone or internet plans. Don’t assume you still have the best plan for you and your family if it’s been years since you signed up.
Take an hour once a year to compare pricing on wireless plans, internet service, and more. You may be surprised at what new and possibly less expensive options there are out there.
