5 Cord Cutting Stories You Should Keep an Eye on in September 2017

Cutting the cable connection to coax connector illustrating people cancelling cable TV serviceSo far 2017 has been a great year for cord cutters with tons of new services and devices. Now September looks to be full of great new options for cord cutters.

Here are 5 cord cutting stories I am keeping an eye on in September 2017 and you should too.

#1 CBS & The CW

Keep an eye on CBS this month because we expect it to roll out to many different streaming services including DIRECTV NOW. We are also expecting The CW to roll out on Hulu and DIRECTV NOW likely in September.

#2 New Apple TV

On Tuesday, September 12, according to all reports, Apple will announce a new 4K HDR Apple TV.

Details are still thin and beyond 4K HDR support we cannot confirm anything about the device. So make sure to keep an eye out to see what new features Apple will announce.

#3 AT&T Sports (Formally Root Sports)

A few months ago the Utah Jazz renewed its TV deal and proudly announced that AT&T Sports will be on a live TV streaming service like DIRECTV NOW. Since that happened no other word of this has come about what service(s) it will be on.

That is not unusual because typically they don’t announce a new channel until the channel goes live. The Utah Jazz did say that it would be added in time for the 2017 NBA season, so I am expecting if something happens it will happen in September.

What service it will be on is also unknown, but AT&T owns both AT&T Sports and DIRECTV NOW so that is one of the likely services to add it.

#4 New Amazon Echo

According to all reports we are just days away from a new Amazon Echo device. Increasingly the Amazon Echo is becoming a great cord cutting tool—whether that be for music or to control your streaming player.

As best we can tell the new device will have a better speaker and better voice recognition.

#5 New Fire TV & New Roku

As best we can tell a new Fire TV and a new Roku are on the way. We know they are coming, but we still think it is more likely to happen in October; however, keep an eye out for a post Apple TV announcement.

In years past it has not been unusual for companies such as Roku or Apple to try and steal some thunder from an Apple announcement by sneaking out one of their own to get press to talk about their device at the same time they talk about the new Apple TV.

It could happen, but October is a more likely date.

Well, there you go. 5 cord cutting stories I am keeping a close eye on and you should too.
