DirecTV Now is a new live TV streaming service from AT&T that is reported to offer 100 live streaming channels for just $35 a month. We are starting to learn a lot of the details such as some of the channels and even promotional deals. But we have yet to hear about some of the most demanded features.
Here are three features cord cutters want that we have yet to hear anything about from DirecTV Now.
#1 DVR
Possibly the most disappointing feature we have heard nothing about is a DVR. Now it is starting to sound like there will be no DVR at least in the basic package. We do know they will offer a 3-day catch up service for many of their channels. This is similar to how Sling TV works. You can find many episodes in their on-demand section for 3 days after they air.
However, there is still hope for a possible DVR. Rumors are that a DVR feature may be an add-on. We do know that there will be multiple packages for DirecTV Now. It is possible one of the higher-priced packages will have a DVR. Or maybe there will be a surprise and a DVR will show up.
#2 Roku
We can confirm that there will be NO Roku support at launch. For a short time DirecTV Now’s website went live and it listed all supported devices. Sadly Roku players are not one of the supported devices; however, they do say more players are coming soon.
#3 No NBC Locals on Streaming Players
DirecTV Now will offer NBC local channels in some markets but only on computers and mobile devices. No support for streaming players such as the Apple TV and the Fire TV. This may be the strangest omission but it looks as though you won’t be able to stream on your big screen.
Hopefully these issues will be addressed soon but it is likely at launch we won’t have a DVR, Roku, or NBC on streaming players.
