Microsoft has announced that its Xbox TV app will soon be available on Amazon’s Fire TV Sticks, starting in July. This development will enable Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscribers to stream a wide variety of games directly to their Fire TV devices, expanding the accessibility of Xbox Cloud Gaming.

The new Xbox app will be compatible with Fire TV Stick 4K Max and Fire TV Stick 4K models, making it accessible to users in over 25 countries. To get started, users will need a compatible Fire TV Stick, a Bluetooth-enabled wireless controller, and an active Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscription.

This expansion marks a significant milestone for Microsoft, as it is the first time the Xbox TV app is launching on a device other than Samsung’s recent TVs and monitors. Microsoft initially partnered with Samsung in 2022 to bring the Xbox TV app to Samsung’s 2022 smart TV lineup. Additionally, last year, an Xbox app was made available on Meta’s Quest VR headsets, further broadening the reach of Xbox Cloud Gaming.

Since its debut in 2001, the Xbox brand has been a pivotal force in the gaming industry. The original Xbox introduced groundbreaking features like built-in hard drives and broadband connectivity, setting the stage for online gaming. Subsequent consoles, including the Xbox 360, Xbox One, and the latest Xbox Series X|S, have continued to innovate with advancements in graphics, gameplay, and services such as Xbox Live and Xbox Game Pass, which have transformed how gamers access and enjoy their favorite titles.

Ashley McKissick, head of Xbox experiences and platforms engineering, expressed enthusiasm about the new development: “Over the past several years, we have been on a journey to deliver cloud gaming to more devices and to more people around the globe. We are excited to add Fire TV to our growing family of cloud gaming devices and eager to welcome new players into this experience.”

By bringing Xbox Cloud Gaming to Amazon’s Fire TV Sticks, Microsoft is lowering the barrier to entry for gaming, allowing more people to experience high-quality gaming without the need for a dedicated console. This move not only democratizes gaming access but also paves the way for future innovations in how games are delivered and played, potentially reshaping the landscape of the gaming industry.
