For a limited time, residents in these areas can purchase the Starlink hardware for $299, down from the usual $499. This discount is available due to excess network capacity in these regions.
Pricing History and Current Discounts
In March 2022, Starlink raised its hardware cost from $499 to $599. However, this week, the company reverted the standard price back to $499. In the 28 states where there is excess capacity, a further $200 discount is applied, making the hardware cost $299. It’s important to note that the duration of this deal is uncertain and may end once the network capacity balances out.
According to a recent support page update from Starlink, “In the United States, new orders in certain regions are eligible for a one-time savings in areas where Starlink has abundant network availability.” This discount applies to new Residential Standard service orders placed on Starlink.com and for those activated after purchase from a retailer.

Starlink’s monthly service fees also vary based on capacity. In areas with limited capacity, the service costs $120 per month, while in regions with excess capacity, the cost is reduced to $90 per month. Therefore, if you’re in one of these 28 states, you could benefit from both the reduced hardware cost and the lower monthly fee.
Hardware Details
Regardless of whether you pay $299 or $499 for the hardware, you’ll receive a Wi-Fi router and the latest version of Starlink’s standard residential user terminal. This new terminal, however, lacks the ability to self-align, a feature present in the older “Starlink Actuated” model. The current dish must be manually positioned, though the Starlink app provides guidance for optimal setup.
Noah Clarke, a Starlink user, explains, “The ‘actuated’ part of Standard Actuated refers to the electric motors inside the antenna housing. These motors, which are connected to the mast, can rotate and tilt the Standard Actuated dish, enabling it to self-align to the Starlink satellites. In contrast, the Standard dish has done away with the built-in mast and motors. The Standard dish must be manually rotated during the initial installation, with the help of the Starlink app.”
Optional Accessories
Starlink offers several mounting hardware options as optional accessories:
- Pivot mount: $74
- Wall mount: $67
- Pipe adapter: $38
- 45-meter cable: $115 (three times longer than the standard cable)
