Paramount Global has announced a significant multi-year affiliation agreement with Nexstar Media Group, the largest broadcaster in the United States. This landmark deal, set to enhance the reach and influence of The CW Network, covers 42 markets and includes two major Paramount-owned independent stations in Miami, Florida, and Detroit, Michigan. Both these markets are among the top 20 in the nation, marking a strategic expansion for The CW.
The agreement encompasses 40 stations owned by Nexstar and two operated by its partner, Mission Broadcasting. Combined, these stations serve nearly 19 million television households, representing 15% of the U.S. audience. This significant coverage solidifies The CW’s presence across a substantial portion of the country, ensuring its programming reaches a wider and more diverse audience.
New Affiliates Announced
The CW Network has also announced new television station affiliates in Tucson, Arizona, Santa Barbara, California, and Corpus Christi, Texas. Effective September 1, these local stations will commence airing The CW’s primetime entertainment programming and live sports. The new affiliates are:
- Tucson, Arizona: KTTU-TV, owned by TEGNA Inc.
- Santa Barbara, California: KCOY-TV, owned by VistaWest Media.
- Corpus Christi, Texas: KSCC-TV, owned by Sinclair Broadcasting Group, LLC.
Starting September 1, these stations will become the exclusive homes for several popular sports and entertainment events. This includes Pac-12 college football, ACC college football and basketball, NASCAR Xfinity Series Racing, WWE NXT wrestling, and LIV Golf. Notably, KTTU-TV in Tucson will also broadcast the 2024 Snoop Dogg Arizona Bowl Presented by Gin & Juice by Dre and Snoop, live from Arizona Stadium on December 28.
In addition to the new affiliates, WBFS-TV in Miami and WKBD-TV in Detroit will begin carrying The CW Network’s diverse programming lineup on September 1. This includes news, primetime entertainment, live sports, and special events, further expanding The CW’s footprint in these major markets.
This multi-year affiliation agreement is a strategic move for both Paramount Global and Nexstar. For Paramount, it means a broader audience for The CW’s diverse content, ranging from entertainment and live sports to special events. For Nexstar, it enhances their market presence and provides viewers with more robust programming options.
