Netflix Is Testing a New, More Aggressive Version of Auto Play

Netflix has an auto play feature that if you open a show or movie for more details it will start playing in the background. Now it seems Netflix is becoming even more aggressive in its auto play features.

Recently some Redditors have noticed that Netflix is placing giant tiles for movies. If you hover over that movie in the main menu it will start playing a trailer with sound turned on for that movie. Now this is not the big promo at the top of the Netflix page, this seems to be a similar type of ad but featured down in the menus.

This seems to be just one more effort to get you to watch a show or movie that is new to you. Netflix seems to be doing everything it can recently to drive up viewership from testing better images to auto play.

We did contact Netflix and they did not confirm this new feature they did add that Netflix is constantly testing new and different types of video assets.

For now the new auto play trailers seems to be happening on the PS4 app and some website versions. We have not received any reports of this happening on Roku, Fire TV, or Apple TV.

Have you seen this new auto play trailers mixed in with the regular menus? Leave us a comment and let us know.
