netflix-cookedAre you ready for some non-scripted Netflix originals? A reality show on Netflix is nothing new, but it seems as though Netflix is doubling down on creating more non-scripted shows.

This does not mean they will all be reality shows. Non-scripted content can include a wide range of shows from talk shows to even documentaries depending on who you talk to. Both are show types Netflix already has a history with.

This seems to be part of Netflix’s plan to make half of its catalog consist of Netflix originals to help overcome the conflicts they have with content owners. Netflix plans to have 1,000 hours of original programming available by the end of 2017, which would be a big step toward Netflix’s goals.

In total Netflix plans to spend $6 billion on original content in 2017—a jump from the $5 billion they spent in 2016. This will make Netflix one of the largest spenders on new content right up there with any of the big names in the industry.

This does raise the question how will Netflix’s move to more original content be received by their subscribers. Only time will tell how this change in focus will be taken by Netflix subscribers.
