All 6 major streaming services offer regional sports networks. Including CSN (being renamed NBC Sports Networks) and Fox Sports Networks. Check each one of their serveries to find out what is offered in your area.

Number of Streams

DIRECTV NOW offers two streams.

Sling TV will allow you to stream one or three streams at once depending on what package you sign up for. You can also use your Sling TV login for some apps such as WatchESPN.

PlayStation Vue will work on five devices at once but some channels will not work outside of your home network. You can use your PlayStation Vue login on different apps such as WatchESPN.

YouTube TV allows for 3 streams at once both inside and outside of your home.

Fubo TV allows 2 streams at the same time.

Hulu live TV beta starts with 2 streams but you can add more for $14.99 a month.

YouTube TV will keep shows for 9 months but replaces DVR recording with on-demand versions when available.

Fubo TV offers 10 days of cloud DVR and you can record 10 shows at once. .

Hulu live TV beta starts with 50 hours of storage. If you want more storage or the ability to fast forward you can pay $14.99 a month to get that ability.

Thanks for the breakdown. The only correction that I can see is that Fubo TV has the Hallmark Channels.

  • Kirk Heisig

Really nice breakdown. That is a lot of work to put together that spreadsheet. You should check out a newer website, http://www.suppose.tv
I don’t think they have fubotv listed, but it is a really nice interface to help with any decisions about those national “cable” networks.

  • tbird2252

Luke, Need to add One America News “OAN” to your lineup. Thanks for keeping everyone updated on the latest streaming news!

  • Ottis DA Da aD

    Directv has Revolt

  • NotMyCombOver

Thanks for the update. For me PS Vue is still the best option. 5 streams (only need 3) without being forced to pay more, best DVR (not perfect). Channels like Science and BBC America (don’t need 10 or 15 sport channels). I’m not affected by the price increase because I was already paying $39.99 for all the local channels. Just wish they would update their Roku app, but it’s really nice on my Fire TV box. I’ll peek at Hulu Live once they get Roku support, but $14.99 for more streams on Hulu live is just not going to happen, and they need more live channels. I have basic Hulu for $5.99 a month thru November.

I have to disagree on the Vue DVR function. It’s kinda clunky to use, and the way they list programs (even ones you’ve watched) is confusing. Glad it’s working for you though I prefer the SlingTV DVR.

  • Louise Barton

Good to hear that Direct Tv Now is launching DVR services soon.

  • Adam

Thanks for the updated information. One thing that I noticed though, YouTube tv only include YouTube Red Originals, not full YouTube Red.

  • Eleanor Sullivan

Why did you only include Hulu beta which has limited availability compared to original Hulu?

  • Steeler4Ever

Hi thanks for the work you put into this. Another comparison that adds value to these services that I haven’t seen written about is quality. I can say for sure Sling and Direct TVnow comes under in terms of quality compared to cable and OTA channels. Dolby surround sound and clearer pictures( especially sports) adds value to cable and otas. With that said these services should be cheaper.

    • Vegas Steve

I think that varies from location to location. It really shouldn’t, but I’ve read that it does, so if that’s the case, it would be hard to quantify.

    • Dean Logan

When the DirecTV NOW DVR comes out, I will have a better comparison. Without the DVR I am saving over $100 a month with the $35 package that gives me all the channels I actually watched when I had DirecTV sat. It was a better package than SlingTV. Maybe more services will create more competition and lower prices. I pay for AT&T fiber at a rate lower than what I was paying for slower regular internet and that is due to Google Fiber being in the area.

  • John Burgess

Thanks for update. Would be nice to have the “cable credentials” (in this format) each offers, as part of the review.

    • Vegas Steve

Yeah, like maybe a ‘c’ next to the X, like Xc
      That would be cool.

  • Curtis Cooley

My experience, at least with SyFy, is that DVR’d shows are replaced when streaming versions are available on Sling as well. It may depend on channel. ESPN does not dvr.

  • Mike Thaler

Minor correction. Google/YouTubeTV has had BBC World News in the few weeks we’ve subscribed. (Still no CNN.)

    • Pete Penny

All locals are not available in Atlanta. I subscribe to Directv Now and we receive ABC and FOX. I live 45 miles outside the city and subscribe directly to CBS for $6/month. NBC is received OTA. Sling does not offer all locals either. According to the list provided Direct offers many more stations than Sling. Direct costs $35/month plus $6 for CBS. $41 total isn’t too bad. I will be adding an antenna rotor in the future which will provide additional channels from Chattanooga. The only problem I have with Directv Now is occasional freezing/buffering.

  • zimmuze41

Vue is superior for me right now, but I use a Roku in my main room (Fire stick elsewhere), so I’m hoping Directv Now gets on the dvr function soon. Now is a great service, but without dvr, I can’t pay $40/mo. Vue on Roku is awful and will lose business fast if Now adds dvr.

    • Mike Thaler

Thanks for the input on Vue. Was going to “free trial” them. Am using Google/youtube which is in the “just getting off ground” stage – but works well.

  • cnvsbk

Why are the Outdoor and Sportsmans channels not listed, I know Sling has them.

  • Joseph Duffy

YouTube TV better add some channels before the rollout of DirectTV Now’s DVR service. I love YouTube TV’s DVR but they have a way to go to match DirectTV Now’s channel lineup.

  • juztplayin12

Well once DTVN gets an app for Android TV I would like to try it….

  • Jimmy Sterling

Directv now is the best and when the dvr laucnhes sling vue utube or huku wont be able to compare at 35 a month 4 all thr challens i get they can’t be best now just add more streams

  • Soyntgo4it

VUE and DTVN at the moment for me along with Netflix canceling Hulu.

  • Sam Iamee

You might want to update the chart. Hulu Live is available on the Fire TV now.

  • David Meniketti

I am trying Sling, Directv Now, and YouTube TV, also tried Hulu Live and Vue. I’m travelling 8 months out of the year so I also wanted to see what works best on the road. Tried that last weekend and YouTube TV is the only one that streamed my local channels using a VPN. Also DirecTV Now on my cable 200Mbps connection at home is the slowest to have channels come up and the worst for buffering.Too bad since they have the best collection of channels avail. but they suffer next to Sling and YouTube for buffering and fast access to channel switching.

I gave up on Vue as they were a hassle to log into with the triple verification. I like that they are trying to keep it well protected, but I grew weary of logging in, then having to pick multiple squares of pictures with Captcha, followed by a texted code to type in. Ruins the experience when on a laptop on a browser.

YouTube TV has the best DVR as far as ease and with playback you can choose different resolutions, with most having a 1080p option. They are probably upsampling it, but I like the option where others don’t give it and just stream the best they can given the signal. Probably the best is 720 for most.

The whole reason I’m trying these is that my Dish Anywhere with a Hopper 3 is sometimes unusable on the road to play back my DVR recordings. Hope these work a bit better. Time will tell, but I’m not stopping Dish just yet – have 2 months in Europe coming up in a few short weeks so I’ll see first hand how these work.

    That’s my take so far.

Are the services with DVR service a regular DVR or a mobile DVR! As the YouTube cloud DVR never recorded,if it did I couldn’t get to the show! I could see ontop but page on tablet was broken up
