In a sign of the ever growing world of cord cutting, CBS came out yesterday with strong numbers for CBS standalone streaming services CBS All-Access and Showtime.
According to their second quarter 2016 report, CBS-All Access and Showtime topped 2 million subscribers and generated over $800 million in new revenue.

This is likely just the start of digital growth in 2016 as we approach the release of the new “Star Trek: Discovery” show, which will be a CBS-All Access exclusive inside the United States. (Outside of the United States, you can stream the show on Netflix.)
CBS is clearly dedicated to online content and has even been rumored to be working on a CW subscription service similar to CBS All-Access, but details have been thin on the proposed new service. Some have even wondered if after the new Netflix CW deal that a CW All-Access service could be dead.
Overall CBS is having an excellent 2016 and it is only half over. CBS President Les Moonves said in their second quarter conference call, “It was a terrific quarter, our business is thriving, and we see growth opportunities ahead that are more exciting than ever.”
Hopefully as more people see the success of cord cutter friendly content creators, such as CBS, it will force more channels to get on board.
