Amazon Video Maybe About to Drop Episode Prices to $1

Amazon-Prime-Instant-VideoAmazon has long been known for their $1.99 SD episodes making them a great place to grab an episode for a show you may have missed. Now it looks like Amazon may be getting ready to drop that price on at least some older shows to $1.00.

Recently the Roku Amazon Video app was updated and now when you look at older shows, such as the 1970 Dragnet, the classic police drama, is clearly listed for $1 per episode. However, when you look at the episodes you are unable to buy any Dragnet episode for $1.

AmazonDollaThis raises several questions: did Amazon make a mistake with their new Roku app or did they accidently update their Roku app before they planned to release the big announcement? We do know Amazon is planning to roll out a live streaming option to their streaming service soon.

If Amazon does start selling older episodes for just $1 that would help them corner a market that seems stuck at $1.99 and help Amazon stand out. This would mean Amazon would be your place for premium subscriptions, such as Starz and Showtime with live TV, and even old episodes for just a dollar.

We will update this post as we learn more but keep an eye open for a big announcement from Amazon in June.
