YouTube Will Now Track Your Total Watch Time

Are you addicted to YouTube? I admit I increasingly watch YouTube over traditional TV programs. As part of Google’s digital well-being tools, you will now be able to track your YouTube viewing time.

With this new setting, you will not only be able to track how much time you watch but also have YouTube suggest you take a break after an especially long binge-watching session.

This new feature will soon be rolling out to you via the YouTube account menu. There, you will see your daily average viewing based on your watch history. You will also find out how many hours you watched in the last 7 days and yesterday.

“At Google I/O in May, we introduced new tools that help people better understand their tech usage, focus on what matters most and disconnect when needed. Starting today, you can find all of the YouTube tools in one place, alongside your personal time watched profile. Our goal is to provide a better understanding of time spent on YouTube, so you can make informed decisions about how you want YouTube to best fit into your life,” Google said in a blog post on their site.

Google has already offered the option to limit viewing on YouTube Kids. Now it also looks like they want to inform you about your viewing habits on YouTube’s main site.
