YouTube TV’s New Packages vs DIRECTV Genre Packs: Comparing the More Affordable Options

Watching tv and using remote control

Live TV streaming services have slowly been increasing their prices over the years, as they add new channels and features for cord cutters. However, cost is still the number one reason given for switching from cable to streaming and the prices are getting too high for many subscribers.

To address the need for more affordable pricing, streaming services have started launching pared down plans with genre-specific channel lineups so subscribers can choose the package that works best for them, without paying for as many extras.

Below, we’re comparing DIRECTV’s Genre Packs, which launched last year, and YouTube’s recently announced new plans that are currently rolling out.

DIRECTV Genre Packs

DIRECTV launched its Genre Packs in February 2025, starting with three Genre Packs and two Mini-Pack Add-ons.
