YouTube TV vs. PlayStation Vue: Which is the Better Deal? We Take a Look (Updated July 2019)

TV RemoteWith many streaming services making changes to their pricing and channel lineups, it’s a good time to revisit our streaming service comparisons. In this post, we’re looking at YouTube TV and the Core plan from PlayStation Vue, which has a similar number of channels.

Plans and Pricing

YouTube TV costs $49.99/month. The streaming service doesn’t have multiple plan options to choose from. Before starting your monthly subscription, you can try it out with a 5 day free trial.

PlayStation Vue has a few different plan options to choose from. Recently, the streaming service increased the price of each of their plans by $5. These are your options when you sign up, with those new prices.

Channel and Price Comparison

One way to look at the value you’re getting from your streaming service is to compare how many channels you get for your money.

With YouTube TV, you’ll pay $49.99/month for 85 channels, bringing the cost to about 59 cents per channel.

The PlayStation Vue Core package now costs $54.99 for 79 channels, making the cost about 70 cents per channel.

Channels

Comparing price per channel is a good way to look at the value of each streaming service, but you’ll want to choose the platform with the channels you watch most often. Below, you’ll find the full list of channels from both options.

Here’s what you’ll get with your YouTube TV subscription:

And these are the channels you’ll get with a PlayStation Vue Core plan:

Simultaneous Viewing

YouTube TV allows you to stream simultaneously on up to 3 devices. You can also create up to 6 profiles per account, making it easy for each member of the family to personalize their viewing experience with their favorite channels and content.

PlayStation Vue will let you watch 5 streams simultaneously. However, you can only watch on 3 away from your home area, including smartphones and tablets.

Cloud DVR

A YouTube TV subscription comes with a Cloud DVR with unlimited storage. You can record shows simultaneously and watch from any of your devices.

Your PlayStation Vue Core subscription comes with “unlimited” Cloud DVR storage that will allow you to record up to 500 programs. Your content will be saved for 28 days.
