Google has rolled out a fresh visual update to its YouTube TV application on Android devices, introducing a modernized set of icons that bring the streaming service’s interface in line with recent design evolutions seen across other YouTube products. This change, which arrived in early February 2026 through app version 10.05.0, focuses on refreshing the graphical elements throughout the platform to create a more consistent and contemporary user experience.
The transformation primarily affects the icons used in key navigation areas. In the bottom navigation bar, the symbols representing Library, Home, and Live now feature significantly thicker outlines, giving them a bolder and more prominent appearance on screens. Similarly, the Cast and Search icons positioned in the app bar at the top have received the same treatment, adopting the heavier line weights that enhance visibility and tap targets. These adjustments extend beyond just the main navigation, with refreshed icons appearing across various sections of the app, including program detail pages, the Account area, bottom sheets that slide up for additional options, and the Settings menu, according to 9to5Google.
During video playback, controls have also been updated to match the new aesthetic. The play button, along with next and previous track indicators, now utilize rounded triangle shapes instead of sharper designs from earlier versions. Rewind and fast-forward buttons have been refined for better alignment with the overall style. Notably, the fullscreen and minimize controls appear larger in proportion compared to surrounding elements, which may draw more immediate attention from users adjusting their viewing mode.
This icon overhaul follows a pattern established late in the previous year when the main YouTube app and YouTube Music first adopted the thicker, more expressive outline approach. By applying the same design language to YouTube TV, Google aims to unify the look and feel across its family of video and audio services. The update builds on an earlier modification from January 2026 that revamped the Live guide interface on mobile platforms. That prior change shifted channel icons to the left side of the screen, increased the amount of scheduling information visible at once, and added features like horizontal swiping for upcoming programs along with a prominent red button to jump back to live viewing.
While the new icons contribute to a cleaner and more modern presentation, certain aspects of the interface retain their previous configurations. For example, some sliding sheets continue to dock at the bottom of the display rather than floating freely like the updated Live menus. The rollout has so far been limited to Android smartphones and tablets, with no indication yet of when or if the same icon refresh will extend to iOS versions on iPhone and iPad devices. Users on those platforms continue to see the older icon set in their apps.
The move reflects Google’s ongoing efforts to refine its streaming offerings amid growing competition in the live television and on-demand video space. YouTube TV has steadily expanded its appeal through features like unlimited cloud DVR storage, multiview capabilities for watching multiple channels simultaneously, and broad channel lineups covering major networks, sports, news, and entertainment. By keeping the mobile app visually current, the service positions itself to deliver a seamless experience whether users are browsing live channels, accessing recorded content, or casting to larger screens.
As more subscribers encounter the update over the coming days and weeks, the thicker outlines and refined shapes are expected to become the standard across Android installations. This incremental redesign helps maintain familiarity while subtly improving readability and interaction on high-resolution displays common in modern phones. Overall, the change represents a small but meaningful step in evolving the YouTube TV platform to feel more integrated within Google’s broader ecosystem of applications.
