After losing a list of regional sports networks at the beginning of this month, YouTube is adding a new feature for football fans. With the new Fantasy View feature, YouTube TV subscribers can track their fantasy footballs while watching games.
“In building YouTube TV, we wanted to reimagine what it meant to watch TV, not just that you’re sitting, staring at a screen at the expense of your involvement,” said Kathryn Smith, product lead. “We’ve spent a lot of time with TV viewers, sat in living rooms and watched them watch TV. People aren’t just sitting there watching a game, they’re on their phone, laptop, checking sports and scores, following a fantasy team, texting about the game.”
To use Fantasy View, you’ll need to link an NFL.com fantasy account to YouTube TV as the feature only works with NFL fantasy football, not leagues from Yahoo, ESPN, etc.
Fantasy View is available at launch on iOS and Android devices. With Fantasy View, you’ll find:
- A live feed of the current scores in your matchup plus your projected total points,
- A quick look at players on your team – and your opponent’s – that are playing in the game you’re currently watching so you can see how a recent play may have impacted your score immediately,
- A comprehensive view of how your entire team is performing in your matchup overall,
- And an overview of all of the matchups in your league.
To get started, open the YouTube TV app and tap on Fantasy. You’ll be directed to log in to your NFL.com account. The app will then pull information from your existing fantasy team if you already have one. During games, tap on the Fantasy tab to pull up info about your team and players.
