YouTube TV is Ending Support For Apple In-App Purchases for Existing Subscribers

youtube tv logoToday YouTube TV announced that they are ending support for in-app purchases for existing subscribers on March 13th, 2020. Last year YouTube stopped letting new subscribers sign-up through in-app purchases on iOS devices. Instead, new subscribers had to go make an account on YouTube TV’s website. If you already had an account you could continue to pay through your in-app payment method on iOS. Now though, that is coming to an end on March 13th, 2020.

YouTube TV emailed subscribers who are still using in-app purchasing through iOS devices to notify them that their accounts will automatically be canceled on their next billing date after March  13th, 2020. YouTube TV subscribers who are affected by this will need to sign-up again by visiting YouTube TV’s website.

The good news is signing up through the YouTube TV website is cheaper. To cover the cost of Apple’s fee on in-app purchases, Google charged iOS subscribers who used in-app purchases $5 more. By going through YouTube TV directly you can save money on your monthly bill.

You will still be able to watch YouTube TV on Apple products like the Apple TV and iPhone but you will need to log into the app with a YouTube TV account you created on their website.

Google did not say why they are making this change in the email.

This is breaking news; more coming soon.
