YouTube TV Introduces Add-On Exploring Feature

YouTube TV announced in a tweet today that subscribers will see a new feature when watching on their TV. A new icon in the top right corner will allow subscribers to explore the streaming service’s add-on options.

Under the icon, subscribers will be able to quickly access available and new add-ons and find recommended movies and shows from across the add-on packages offered.

YouTube TV has been building its collection of add-ons over the past few months. What started as the typical selection of premium channel add-ons (Cinemax, HBO, Showtime, Starz, etc.) has grown to include more premium channels along with two bundles, YouTube TV Sports Plus and YouTube TV Entertainment Plus.

The YouTube TV Sports Plus add-on launched in September 2020. The bundle includes NFL Red Zone, Fox College Sports, GolTV, Fox Soccer Plus, MAVTV Motorsports Network, TVG, and Stadium for $10.99/month.

The YouTube TV Entertainment Plus add-on launched in February 2021. The Entertainment Plus bundle includes HBO Max, Showtime, and Starz for $29.99/month on top of your YouTube TV monthly subscription.

Now that YouTube TV is looking for ways to promote these add-ons and make them more easily accessible to subscribers, will the streaming service be adding more options? Add-ons are a good opportunity for YouTube TV and other live TV streaming services to add more content without raising the base subscription price. We expect to see more “YouTube TV Plus” add-ons popping up in the future.
