YouTube TV Glitch Causing Unskippable Ads on Recorded Programs Returns

A bug that is forcing unskippable ads into YouTube TV’s recorded programs seems to have made a return.

A number of users on YouTube TV’s Reddit thread have complained the shows and movies they’ve recorded to their library get served up as a video on demand — complete with ads that they can’t fast forward past.

YouTube TV offers its viewers the opportunity to record programming on a cloud DVR by listing their favorite shows. Watching a recording gives people the ability to view and fast forward through the ads. But accessing a show on demand — which you hadn’t previously sought to record — will serve up a new batch of ads that you need to sit through.

Users on the thread also complained of playback error.

YouTube TV’s account officially responded, explaining that a recent code change that was supposed to fix this issue didn’t go as planned.

“One tricky aspect of access is the case where people buy and cancel various subscriptions and then start other subscriptions,” the company said. “We recently introduced a code change that was supposed to give users access to the products they should already have access to, but may have lost due to cancellations and reinstatements.”

But YouTube TV added that the fix for DVR playback should be in place now, and that it was working on restoring DTV recordings by the weekend.

It added that users who had their service up for renewal after September 26 were affected.

A similar issue popped up back in July. YouTube TV at the time said it was looking at the issue.

A spokesman for Google wasn’t immediately available to confirm the issue.
