Yesterday YouTube TV announced plans to add additional markets and a few new channels, but device support was not mentioned. During a recent interview with Cnet a Google executive said “this fall we’ll be rolling out a number of different living room solutions.”
What devices these are could be anyone’s guess but it’s likely to include Roku or Fire TV support. Currently, Apple TV and Android TV devices can get YouTube TV by casting it from your phone and tablet.
It is possible that Google could add casting support to the Fire TV and Roku as both devices already support casting from YouTube. You can even cast live streams on YouTube so technologically both Roku and the Fire TV could easily support YouTube TV.
The big question now is will Google launch a real app that won’t need a phone or tablet. For now we will have to wait until this fall to see what new support YouTube will add.
