YouTube TV Announces an App For Android TV, Smart TVs, & Xbox One

Watching TV, Watching, Living Room, Domestic Life, SmilingSince launch YouTube TV only had apps for mobile devices. If you wanted YouTube TV on your TV you had to cast it to a supporting device from your mobile device. Now Google has announced a new line of apps for smart TVs, Android TV, and game systems.

This means that YouTube TV will be available on Android TV devices, including Nvidia Shield; and those TVs with Android TV built-in, like Sony; plus the Xbox One family of devices, including the Xbox One, Xbox One S, and soon Xbox One X in the near future.

Google went on to say apps for LG, Samsung, and Sony Smart TVs are in the works as is an app for the Apple TV in the next few weeks. No word on when the Roku app will be coming but they are rumored to be in the works.

This is a huge step in the right direction for YouTube TV as it brings them more in line with their competitors like Hulu, DIRECTV NOW, PlayStation Vue, Sling TV, and more.

As of the time of this posting, the app has not started to roll out for these new devices yet. We will post an update when the app is live.
