YouTube TV Adds Extended DVR for Live Events

Family Enjoying Movie Night At Home TogetherFor some time now, YouTube TV’s DVR automatically extended recordings of sporting events. Now YouTube TV has also added this feature for other live events like last weekend’s Grammys.

Typically, when the scheduled end point happens the DVR stops recording even if the event is not over. With live events, like sports and award shows, you can often miss the ending.

Last weekend YouTube TV subscribers who recorded the Grammy’s found that even though the Grammy’s went about 13 minutes beyond the scheduled end time, YouTube TV added an additional 15 minutes of recording to the event so subscribers who DVRed the event didn’t miss the ending. This was first spotted and posted about on Reddit.

Most live TV streaming services and even cable TV DVRs don’t offer this feature. This change may seem small, but the ability to ensure your subscribers won’t miss a big finish to a game or a live event helps YouTube TV stand out from the crowd.
