YouTube Premium is rolling out a wave of new experimental features and offering a discounted bundle with Google One storage, giving subscribers even more ways to personalize their viewing experience. These updates aim to enhance audio quality, expand playback options, and provide early access to innovative features.
One of the most significant changes is the ability for YouTube Premium users to enroll in multiple experimental features simultaneously. Previously, subscribers could only test one experimental feature at a time. This opens up a world of possibilities for users to customize their YouTube experience.
Among the new experimental features are:
- Enhanced audio quality: Premium users can now experience higher-fidelity audio with a 256kbps bitrate option, providing clearer and richer sound for music videos.
- Picture-in-picture for Shorts on iOS: iPhone and iPad users can now watch Shorts in picture-in-picture mode, allowing them to multitask while enjoying short-form content.
- Smart Downloads for Shorts on iOS: This feature automatically downloads recommended Shorts for offline viewing, ensuring users always have something to watch on the go.
- AI-powered “Jump ahead” on web: Previously available only on mobile, this feature uses AI to identify the most-watched parts of a video and allows users to skip directly to those sections on web browsers.
- Faster playback speeds on mobile (coming soon): YouTube plans to introduce expanded playback speed controls for mobile devices, allowing users to increase video speed up to four times.
In addition to these experimental features, YouTube is also offering a bundled subscription discount for YouTube Premium and Google One cloud storage. Users who subscribe to a Google One Premium plan (2TB or higher) can now get YouTube Premium for $2 less per month, bringing the price back down to what it was in 2023 before its price hike.
These updates highlight YouTube’s commitment to providing Premium subscribers with exclusive benefits and early access to innovative features. The platform continues to evolve, offering greater control and personalization options for users who opt for its paid subscription service.
By expanding experimental features and offering a bundled discount, YouTube aims to attract new subscribers and enhance the value proposition of YouTube Premium. The platform is clearly investing in innovation and providing users with more reasons to choose its premium offering in a competitive streaming landscape.
