YouTube Originals Will Soon Be Free for Everyone

Right now, if you want to watch YouTube Originals like Cobra Kai, the TV show based on the Karate Kid movies, you will need to be a YouTube Premiere subscriber. However, it looks like YouTube plans to soon make it free with ads.

This was first reported by The Hollywood Reporter and Variety earlier this week. Now Google has confirmed that they plan to make their originals on YouTube for free with ads by 2020. (No date for when this will happen has been set.)

So, what does this mean for YouTube Premium? Right now, that is still unknown. For $11.99 you get ad-free, background play, video downloads across YouTube, to name a few benefits. With this news leaking early its hard to say what Google will do with YouTube Premium. It is possible that this is just the first step in a new version of YouTube Premium, but for now we will have to wait and see what happens.

YouTube did just announce a new, less expensive version of YouTube Premium. Students can get YouTube Premium for just $6.99 a month instead of $11.99 a month. YouTube Music is now just $4.99 a month instead of $9.99 a month.
