YouTube Kids Comes to the Big Screen

If your family loves YouTube Kids, we have good news for you. Google has started to roll out the YouTube Kids app to smart TVs.

In the past YouTube Kids, the Google app that is made to be a safe place for kids to surf YouTube, has been for phones and tablets only (with the ability to cast your videos to Chromecast devices). Now you will be able to use it on Sony and LG TVs with more support coming soon.

Specifically, the app will come to the following TVs: all 2015–2017 LG webOS TVs (via the LG content store); all 2013–2017 Samsung Smart TVs and Blu-ray players (via the Samsung App Store); and, following a firmware update, 2016–2017 Sony TVs (Android TV support is coming soon).

YouTube Kids uses machine learning to filter YouTube to be more friendly for kids. Although it has had issues in the past Google says it has been learning and improving. Google also relies on parents to report videos that are not kid friendly.

To get the new YouTube Kids app on the supported devices you will need to do a software update. Please refer to your device manual for how to update the software on your device.
