YouTube is Working on an Amazon Channels-Like Feature for Third Party Subscriptions

YouTube is interested in adding a new feature that will allow users to subscribe to third party services, much like the setup of Amazon Prime Channels.

The Information reported this morning that YouTube is looking into allowing users to sign up for a “wide range of subscription-streaming services” according to their sources. This sounds similar to Amazon Prime Channels and the third party subscriptions offered through the Apple TV app. Adding the ability to subscribe to a wide range of services through the YouTube or YouTube TV app would put YouTube in a position to be a stronger competitor to services like Amazon, Apple, Hulu, and others.

Offering the ability to subscribe to a wider range of outside services would add significant value to YouTube TV, YouTube’s live TV streaming service. However, it is still unknown whether this feature would be incorporated into YouTube TV or whether it would be separate, allowing a much larger audience to access the feature through YouTube.

A YouTube TV subscription currently costs $49.99/month. With a subscription, users can also choose to subscribe to additional networks for an extra monthly fee. The current networks include Acorn, AMC Premiere, Curiosity Stream, EPIX, Fox Soccer Plus, NBA League Pass, Showtime, Shudder, STARZ, Sundance Now, and UMC. It’s possible that this feature could be added to the streaming service, giving subscribers even more options.
