YouTube Is Testing Picture-in-Picture on Desktops

For some time now you have been able to use the picture-in-picture option on mobile devices. This allows you to continue to watch a video on your phone or tablet as you browse YouTube.

Now 9to5Google is reporting that this option is also being tested on the desktop version of YouTube for laptops and desktops.

It’s unclear at this time if YouTube will be rolling this out across all accounts or whether it will be restricted as a feature for YouTube Red accounts.

Google also recently rolled out a dark theme on mobile devices giving users the option to swap the white background for a dark black background.

This all seems to be part of YouTube’s recent efforts to bring some of the most requested features to the service. Dark mode and the ability to surf YouTube as you watch a video are two requests we often heard from people.

Google has not commented on when they plan to roll out picture-in-picture to more users. Hopefully, this feature will hit all YouTube accounts soon.
