YouTube Is Replacing Cable TV News Like MSNBC & CNN As Americans Look to Free News Options With FOX News Leading the Charge

In a seismic shift for the media landscape, YouTube is rapidly overtaking traditional cable TV news like MSNBC and CNN as the go-to platform for information, with FOX News emerging as the undisputed leader in this digital revolution. According to data released by Emplifi, FOX News closed the first quarter of 2025 with an unprecedented 1.2 billion YouTube video views, marking its best quarter in history and cementing its position as the top news brand on the platform. This milestone underscores a broader trend: viewers are abandoning cable subscriptions in favor of on-demand, accessible content on YouTube, where news consumption is booming.

FOX News’ dominance on YouTube is stark when compared to its competitors. The network outpaced MSNBC, its nearest rival, by 26%, with MSNBC garnering 945 million views. CNN trailed further behind with 489 million views, followed by NBC News at 391 million, ABC News at 357 million, and CBS News at a distant 172 million. This performance not only highlights FOX News’ ability to captivate audiences but also reflects a growing preference for digital platforms over traditional broadcasts. Notably, FOX News’ YouTube views surged by 26% compared to the fourth quarter of 2024, which had previously been its strongest quarter on the platform.

The success extends beyond FOX News to its sister network, FOX Business, which secured 326 million YouTube views in the first quarter of 2025. According to Shareablee, FOX Business has now led the business news competitive set for 13 consecutive quarters, dwarfing CNBC’s 90 million views—a staggering 266% advantage—and Bloomberg’s meager 30 million. This commanding lead illustrates how Fox Corporation is leveraging YouTube to dominate both general and specialized news markets.

The shift to YouTube comes as no surprise given the platform’s flexibility and reach. Unlike cable TV, which requires subscriptions and fixed schedules, YouTube offers free, on-demand access to content, appealing to a younger, cord-cutting audience. FOX News Media has capitalized on this trend, building on a robust 2024 where its digital arm, FOX News Digital, led all news brands in multiplatform views and minutes, according to Comscore. The company’s ecosystem—including FOX News Channel, FOX Business Network, FOX News Digital, and streaming services like FOX Nation—reaches nearly 200 million people monthly, a reach that traditional cable struggles to match.

Industry analysts see this as a tipping point. With FOX News Channel already the most-watched cable news network for 23 consecutive years, its YouTube triumph signals that even established cable giants must adapt or risk obsolescence. As viewers increasingly turn to platforms like YouTube for news, the era of cable TV dominance may be nearing its end, with FOX News leading the charge into the digital future.
