You Can No Longer Use an Amazon Game Controller with Amazon Fire TVs 3rd Gen & Cube

With the latest 6.2.5.3 update from Third Generation Amazon Fire TVs, users will no longer be able to use the Amazon game controller with their televisions. Those with a Fire TV 3, which used to be compatible with the controller, are now reporting that the device shows that the controller can’t be found.

Users are still be able to use the controller with the Fire TV 1, Fire TV 2, Fire TV Stick 1, and Fire TV Stick 2 as of now.

The controller was originally packaged as part of a game bundle with the second gen Fire TV, where the controller was included instead of a traditional remote. The controllers use a WiFi direct connection. The change might have been in an effort to move to Bluetooth connected controllers, as mentioned by AFTV News.

All Fire TVs will still work with Bluetooth game controllers. So, if you’ve been using your PlayStation or Xbox controller with your TV, you’ll still be covered.

For those interested in purchasing the game controller for playing games and not for connecting their Amazon TV, the controllers are currently for sale at $49.99.
