Yahoo Shuts Down Yahoo Screen

Yahoo Screen was meant to compete with Netflix and Hulu, but it never caught on. With Yahoo Screen, you could find everything from original shows to Saturday Night Live and live events like Sunday Night Football and concerts all in one place.

Yahoo told Variety on Monday, “At Yahoo, we’re constantly reviewing and iterating on our products as we strive to create the best user experience. With that in mind, video content from Yahoo as well as our partners has been transitioned from Yahoo Screen to our Digital Magazine properties so users can discover complementary content in one place.”

So whereas Yahoo Screen is shutting down, you will still be able to access much of the same content in different places. For example, you will likely find Sunday Night Football in Yahoo Sports.

While this move may save Yahoo money in the short term it is likely to damage Yahoo in the long run. No longer is there one place to find Yahoo video content but a long list of different pages you will have to hunt through to find what you want. In the end this is likely to mean fewer video plays meaning fewer ad views and less revenue for Yahoo.
