One of the most common questions we receive about YouTube TV is why DVRed shows include unskippable ads.

YouTube TV offers its viewers the opportunity to record programming on a cloud DVR by adding their favorite shows to the Save list. Watching a DVR recording gives people the ability to view and fast forward through the show’s ads. But accessing a show on demand, which you hadn’t previously sought to record, will serve up a new batch of ads that you need to sit through.

So, why are some shows that you DVRed not allowing you to fast forward? Today, we are going to answer that question.

Why do some DVRed programs come with unskippable ads on YouTube TV?

The most common reason is YouTube TV has yet to finish processing the DVRed version of a show. Sometimes YouTube TV can be backed up and the DVR version can take a few hours to show up.

The second most common issue is that YouTube lists DVRed programs and Video On Demand programs next to each other in the YouTube TV Library. This means you may be clicking on an episode that wasn’t DVRed because it hasn’t aired in the previous 9 months. Instead, you are seeing Video On Demand content.

YouTube TV marks programs that are Video On Demand with a yellow VOD label next to the network name. DVRed programs come with a gray DVR label next to the network name.

So, the next time you are wondering why you can’t skip ads, make sure you are watching a DVRed program not a VOD program.
