Why Are Amazon Prime Deliveries Taking Longer Than Usual? —Ask Luke

Holiday shopping has begun, and many shoppers are wondering why Amazon orders are taking longer than usual to arrive this week. For many Amazon products the expected same day or next day deliveries are turning into two-day or even longer deliveries.

So, why are Amazon Prime deliveries taking longer than usual? Today we are going dive into what is happening with this delivery slowdown.

So why are Amazon Prime deliveries taking so long to arrive?

The short answer is Amazon is just overloaded. Amazon saw record sales this recent Black Friday and Cyber Monday. According to Amazon, on Black Friday the company saw $9.8 billion in sales in 2023. That is a 7.5% increase over 2022.

Amazon says they sold more than 1 billion items between November 17 and November 27, 2023. This made Amazon’s recent Black Friday event its biggest ever. Now all these items must be shipped, and new orders are being put in behind the orders from earlier this week.

This is not a new issue for Amazon. During 2020, Amazon had to cut back on the number of products they sold when online sales skyrocketed beyond what the company could handle. Also, after other previous Prime Day and Black Friday sales, we have seen similar slowdowns.

It is likely we will see deliveries return to normal in the next week or so. Already some items that had three day or longer waits are down to two or fewer days. Prime members will need to wait a little longer to get their items.
