What’s the Status on ‘The Mandalorian’ Season 2?

Production in Hollywood sets came to a rapid halt during the pandemic, delaying new releases and creating longer waiting periods between seasons. But in a streak of good luck, season 2 of Disney+‘s The Mandalorian had already wrapped up shooting by the time the coronavirus showed up. That means it’s still on track to premiere on the streaming service this fall.

Here’s what we know so far:

When is the release date?

The actual day hasn’t been confirmed, but The Mandalorian Season 2 is set to debut sometime in October 2020. Season one was released on a Friday, so it’s likely season two will follow suit and premiere on one of the five Fridays in October, with episodes released weekly.

Will there be new characters joining?

Deadline reported that “insiders have hinted that several established characters from the Skywalker Saga’s feature films mythology will make appearances.” Rumor has it we’ll get to see Temuera Morrison return to the franchise, this time as Boba Fett. The New Zealand actor appeared in the prequel moves as Jango Fett, Boba’s son. Also rumored to be joining the cast are Michael Biehn, Timothy Olyphant as Cobb Vanth, Katee Sackhoff as Bo-Katan Kryze, Rosario Dawson as Ahsoka Tano.

Is there a trailer yet?

Unfortunately, no trailer has been released at the time of this article. The annual Star Wars: Celebration fan gathering was scheduled for August 2020, and fans expected to get the first glimpse at The Mandalorian Season 2 there. But like most of 2020, the event has since been canceled due to Covid-19. Lucasfilm may still be planning to drop the trailer around that time with an online debut.
