What is Disney Plus Premier Access?

Mulan Landing Page

Last week, Disney CEO Bob Chapek announced that Mulan will go straight to Disney+ on September 4, along with premiering in theaters that have opened back up. Chapek went on to say that the film will come with a $30 price tag, leaving all of us with more questions than answers.

What is Disney Plus Premier Access?

Mulan will be available through Disney+ Premier Access, an add-on service that Disney is trying out with the launch of Mulan. With Mulan “exclusively available to Disney+ subscribers with Premier Access,” subscribers will have to pay $30 for the movie, on top of their monthly subscription cost of $6.99/month.

For now, Premier Access does not mean that you’ll have access to additional movies later. The $30 charge is only for Mulan.

How Can I Watch Mulan?

You’ll need to start with a subscription to Disney+. When you have that, you can go to the Mulan landing page where you’ll find an option to buy the film for $29.99.

How Long Will I Have Access to the Movie?

When the announcement was first made, there was some question about whether subscribers would be paying to rent or own the movie. Paying $30 for access to Mulan will give you permanent access to the film for as long as you keep your Disney+ subscription.

Will Mulan be Available for All Disney+ Subscribers Later?

Probably. Disney says “you can watch Mulan before it’s available to all Disney+ subscribers” which sounds like the movie will move to the regular Disney+ platform (and potentially other platforms) at some point.

Will Mulan be Available Outside of Disney+?

Again, probably. Disney says “Disney+ will offer Premier Access to Mulan for $29.99 on disneyplus.com and select platforms,” which sounds like distributors like Apple and Amazon might have the film available to rent as well.
