The Weather Channel’s Local Now Is Coming to More Devices For FREE

Local Now is a hyper-local channel that will show local weather, sports, news, traffic, and more based on your IP address. In the past you needed a pay-TV subscription or a subscription to an OTT service such as Sling TV to access it.

Now The Weather Channel has announced a deal with Xumo to bring Local Now to their free Channel Plus streaming service on LG TVs.

Xumo also plans to roll out Local Now on other compatible platforms, which include smart TVs from LG Electronics, Vizio, Panasonic, Magnavox, Panasonic, Philips, Sanyo, and Hisense and Roku streaming players and iOS/Android smartphones and tablets.

The LG Website describes the Channel Plus service as:

Get 100 free IP channels including Got Talent Global, Outside TV Shorts, Just for Laughs, and more integrated right into the television. Discover premium new entertainment, sports, and lifestyle programming or enjoy old favorites any time.

Roku already has a Local Now channel, but it requires a paid TV provider login to access it after the free trial ends. At this time there is no update on whether this deal with Xumo will bring Local Now to Roku players for free.

Xumo did not set a date for Local Now to start rolling out.
