How to Watch YouTube on the Fire TV (After Google Pulls The YouTube App This Weekend)

Time is running out, and Google plans to pull their YouTube app from the Fire TV. A few weeks ago Google announced plans to pull their YouTube app from the Fire TV on January 1, 2018. This is not the first time Google has pulled a YouTube app from an Amazon device. Earlier this year Google pulled the YouTube app from the Echo Show. Last week though the YouTube app returned to the Echo Show, but Google didn’t release that app—it came from Amazon and Google didn’t learn about it until they saw it in the press according to TechCrunch.

So how can you watch YouTube on the Fire TV? There are a few options, mainly using the new web browsers on the Fire TV. You have two options for a web browser on the Fire TV: first, the official Amazon browser called Silk and, second, the FireFox browser for the Fire TV.

What if you don’t want to have to manually enter the address for YouTube every time? Check out the Fire TV app called Bookmarker from AFTVnews.com. This app will allow you to put an app on your home screen, and every time you click on it you will be launched into the website you bookmarked.

You can find the Bookmarker app on Amazon HERE.

What I Suggest

My suggestion is to install the Silk Browser and then install the Bookmarker app. From there just save YouTube.com to your home screen on the Fire TV and you will have easy and full access to YouTube.com from your Fire TV.

The Downside…

Although this will let you access YouTube.com, you will lose some functionality like casting your YouTube to your Fire TV will no longer work. If that is important, you may want to think about buying an inexpensive Roku or Chromecast. Both can be picked up for under $40 and will offer YouTube casting.

So there you go… how to watch YouTube on the Fire TV after Google pulls their YouTube app.
