Warning: Scammers Are Targeting Cord Cutters

Scams are nothing new and phone scams are very common now. We probably all have at one point or another gotten a call from someone claiming to be Microsoft saying they detected your computer had issues. Now, these scammers have started to target cord cutters.

We have been hearing about a growing trend of cord cutters receiving phone calls from people who claim to be from Roku, AT&T, and Netflix.

What happens with these scams is someone calls you from AT&T, Roku, or Amazon saying you need to upgrade their app. From there the scam is like the Microsoft security scam.

Remember these cord cutting companies will not call you to tell you there is an issue with your computer, Roku, or streaming app. They do offer tech support, but they wait for you to call them first.

According to our readers, as soon as people say they don’t have that service or device the call is disconnected. Also, if they push back about whether it is real often the caller will hang up. These callers just move on to the next caller if they think you are not a good target.

Be careful of anyone who calls saying they can fix some issue you have. As more Americans catch on to the Microsoft tech support scams these scammers are moving to other popular services like Netflix, Roku, and even AT&T.
