WarnerMedia announced today that it will retire HBO Go, the streaming app for pay TV customers, on July 31.
“Now that HBO Max has launched and is widely distributed, we can implement some significant changes to our app offering in the U.S.,” the company said in a statement. “Most customers who have traditionally used HBO Go to stream HBO programming are now able to do so via HBO Max.”
Along with ending HBO Go, the company will also be rebranding HBO Now to just HBO. The change will take place over the next few months.
HBO Max has still not made distribution deals with Roku or Amazon. The two platforms cover about 80 million households combined.
As far as pay TV customers with HBO subscriptions with providers who have not yet made distribution deals, a WarnerMedia rep said “For those few remaining distributors, we’re committed to making HBO Max available on every platform possible to as many viewers as possible so hope to get those deals done soon, too.”
