Warner Bros. Discovery is Shutting Down Discovery+ in Canada, Rogers Sports & Media to Launch New Discovery+ Website and App

Warner Bros. Discovery has announced that its discovery+ streaming service will cease operations in Canada on February 17, 2026, marking the end of the platform’s direct presence in the market after several years of availability.

The shutdown affects only the version of discovery+ operated by Warner Bros. Discovery. Canadian subscribers will retain full access to the service and its library of content until either their current billing cycle concludes or the final closure date arrives, whichever occurs first. After February 17, 2026, the existing discovery+ platform will no longer function in the country under Warner Bros. Discovery’s management.

Starting January 14, 2026, a new incarnation of discovery+ will launch under the operation of Rogers Sports & Media. This successor service will feature a completely separate website and mobile application, effectively replacing the outgoing platform. Existing users interested in continuing with discovery+ programming after the transition will need to migrate to the Rogers-managed version. Additional details about pricing, content lineup, and subscription options for the new service are expected to appear on the dedicated information page at discoveryplus.ca/comingsoon in the coming weeks.

For subscribers currently billed directly through Warner Bros. Discovery, the company will automatically terminate accounts on the first billing date that falls after January 14, 2026, or on the shutdown date itself if that arrives sooner. Customers with annual plans whose renewal would have occurred on or after February 17, 2026, will receive prorated refunds for any unused portion of their subscription, with credits issued back to the original payment method.

The transition will also limit new installations of the existing discovery+ app beginning January 14, 2026. Users who already have the app installed on their devices will be able to continue streaming until the final shutdown, as will those accessing the service through the discoveryplus.com website. After that date, the app will no longer be available for download on new devices.

The move comes as part of broader realignments in the Canadian streaming landscape, where domestic telecommunications companies have increasingly taken direct control of international content brands. Rogers Sports & Media, which already holds significant broadcast and cable assets in the country, will now assume full responsibility for the discovery+ brand and its associated lifestyle, reality, and documentary programming from networks such as Discovery Channel, HGTV, Food Network, and TLC.

While Warner Bros. Discovery has not elaborated on the strategic reasoning behind exiting direct operation of discovery+ in Canada, the decision aligns with similar handovers seen in other markets where local partners have absorbed international streaming services to streamline offerings and reduce operational overlap.

Canadian viewers who wish to check their specific billing details can do so by logging into their account on discoveryplus.com, navigating to the profile section, and reviewing the subscription information page. The company has indicated that customer support remains available for any billing-related inquiries during the wind-down period.

The impending closure represents one of the more significant changes to hit the Canadian streaming market in recent months, as consumers prepare for another round of platform switching amid ongoing consolidation in the sector. For many households, the transition will mean deciding whether to follow familiar programming to the new Rogers-operated discovery+ or explore competing services carrying similar unscripted and factual content.
