Walmart Will Reportedly Start Selling a $64 8″ Android Tablet to Compete With Amazon’s Fire Tablets

For some time now we have heard how Walmart was working on an Android-powered tablet to compete with Amazon, Samsung, and Apple. Now Bloomberg is reporting that these tablets will go on sale this week at just $64 for an 8″ version. Or you will be able to get a 10.1″ version with detachable keyboard for just $99 under Walmart’s Onn brand.

You can already find the 8″ version listed on Walmart’s website offering 2GB of ram, and 16GB of storage with a 1.3Ghz quad-core processor running Android 9. Clearly, this is not a high-end tablet but for the price, it is a decently powered tablet that should easily stream movies and run most Android apps without issues.

The main selling point for Walmart over Amazon is the fact that this tablet looks to have full access to the Google Play Store and runs a stock version of Android. Amazon’s Fire TV can get Google Play Store apps but it requires some workarounds by the end user to access apps not included in Amazon’s app store.

Here is how Walmart describes the new 8″ Onn tablet on its website:

The Onn 8″ Android Tablet provides fast performance anywhere you go in a thin and lightweight body. The 8″ 2.5D touchscreen gives you 800 x 1280 resolution so your photos, movies, apps, documents, and more pop with crystal clear vibrancy. With 2GB RAM +16GB ROM, this tablet runs Android 9 and puts the power of a 1.3GHz quad core processor in your hands for better performance for your favorite games, apps, and movies. The Onn 8″ Android Tablet lets you surf the internet, read email, watch movies, read eBooks, listen to music, play games, and take pictures and video with a 0.3 megapixel front-facing camera and a 2 megapixel rear-facing camera.
