Walmart Wants to Launch an Amazon Prime Competitor

Amazon Prime has dominated American shopping for over a decade now. Prime gives subscribers free shipping, music, TV, movies, and more. Now Walmart is reportedly working on its own version of the Amazon Prime service called Walmart+.

According to Vox, Walmart is testing a $98 a year subscription service that will offer unlimited same-day delivery of groceries from more than 1,600 Walmarts. The question now is how will Walmart expand its Walmart+ service to take on Amazon.

Walmart is the second-largest online retailer in the United States with 5% of all online sales. Yet that is dwarfed by Amazon’s 40% of online sales. The problem Walmart faces is the fact that Amazon Prime costs a bit more but gives you more than just free shipping.

For some though Walmart’s free in-home delivery could be a money saver depending on how often they have groceries delivered. And Walmart does have the ability to pair the service with Vudu and other Walmart-owned services to compete with Amazon Prime.
