VUDU Now Lets You Convert DVDs & Blue-rays to Digital Copies With Your Camera

If you are like me, you have a huge collection of DVDs you wish you could easily convert to digital. Vudu wants to make that process easy.

Now you can use your smartphone or tablet to scan the barcode on your DVD case and covert it to a digital copy that will be available in your Vudu account.

There are some limits to this. First Vudu must have that movie in its library, and you must be located at your billing address. (Sorry, no scanning every DVD at Walmart.) Next you are only allowed to scan 100 titles a year. (So no stocking up on DVDs just to return them to Walmart.)

There is a fee for this service: $2 for a DVD version or to upgrade it to a higher resolution it will cost you $5. There is also one last glitch as of today Disney is not participating in the program. Sony, 20^th Century Fox, Universal Pictures, Warner Bros., and many others are participating in this service.

This is not the first time Vudu has offered this service. In the past you had to put a DVD into a computer’s DVD drive so Vudu could scan the disk to make sure you have ownership of that movie. Now they are making it even easier to use with the new mobile phone app.

To do this you will need to update your Vudu app on your mobile device.
